If the fantasy is really open waves, perfect offshore and a gimmee paddle back out…

They don’t put this one in any episode guides.

Roark called it “a modest little wave” with that cryptic smile he uses when he knows you’re about to get your ass spiritually rearranged. We hiked past the palm-lined coves, crossed a ridge thick with birds that absolutely should not exist, and then the jungle just fell away to reveal a reef setup that looked like J-Bay and Pavones had a secret rendezvous while Cloudbreak officiated.

No boats. No ski. No lineup politics. Just a ruler-straight right peeling over pink-veined reef, each section cupping harder than the last, like a friendlier—but only barely—version of Restaurants on a rising swell. The sets came in slow at first, shoulder-high, playful. Then Roark tapped his cane twice on the sand and the horizon stood up into something twice the size of Sunset on a clean winter morning.

I only saw one other surfer all day: Tattoo, sitting twenty yards inside, grinning like he knew something I didn’t. Every time I kicked out, he pointed toward the horizon as another corduroy line marched in, smoother than Macaronis on a high-tide glass-off.

I’ve surfed real places—Rincon on a groomed January west swell, Kirra when it turns into the freight train it was born to be, even Desert Point in that rare hour when the wind shuts up. But none of them felt like this: like the island itself wanted you to have one perfect session, one you’d never be able to prove existed.

Fantasy Island. A dream set, a dangerous tease, and absolutely the crown jewel of all the surf I’ve chased. Some waves are hard to reach; this one feels like it lets you in only when it decides you’re worth the trouble.
