Superior Monetization of Beach Idiocy

The Story

Outer Banks earns this by boldly inventing a coastal reality where you can apparently take a ferry to Chapel Hill, film the “Outer Banks” somewhere else entirely, and locals are called “Pogues." They were already 0-for-3 before the first scene was shot.

It takes genuine commitment to slap a location on a show and repeatedly say, “Screw the real place and the actual people who live there, we’re here to cash checks.”

Truth doesn’t matter, of course—because Netflix turned beach nonsense, bad decisions, and fake coastal slang into a global money printer. It’s not about real kids, real surfers, or real locals. It’s a lifestyle hallucination motivated by the exact same thing as its characters. And on that front, it absolutely nailed it.
